Having
the ability to pay attention to details
and ensure that they always show their best is certain to be an advantage for
some people. But if this is excessive, the results will not be fun or even
burden yourself because it seems to have demands to be always ‘perfect’.
Many
of us might like that, because research by the American Psychological
Association show that the desire to be ‘perfect’ is actually triggered by an
environment that tends to be individualistics, materialistic and socially
antagonistic.
Eventually,
this obsession with perfection can damage mental health, wich can then develop
into causes and symptoms of anxiety and depression. That is why people
should be aware of how control their perfectionism so that they do not burden
themselves.
1.
Get to Know your
Perfectionist Nature
Perfectionists
tend to assume that imperfection = failure. They also assume that the small
mistakes they make can be fatal, and feel very unsuccessful if they do not
succeed in reaching their own targets.
As
a result, besides being easily stressed, people who are chronic perfectionists
have a habit of delaying work. Why? Because he always felt he had to do
everything perfectly, so he always imagined that every job he had to do must
take a lot of time, full effort , and hard. In the end, the work was put on
hold, even though the work was actually very easy.
If
you have these qualities, the first step you must take is to let yourself know;
it's okay to make mistakes! It's wrong to make mistakes, you know,
especially if the mistakes are trivial. Also do not be afraid to take the
opportunity, because of fear of failure! Failure is part of life's journey.
Keep that in mind, yes.
2. Try
to See "Your Failure" from the Perspective of Others
When
you feel like you have failed to do something, imagine that you are in someone
else's position. For example, when you feel like you have failed to make a
"perfect" group assignment, imagine that you are a group friend of
yours. Will he consider your group's assignments to be a complete failure,
especially to the point of blaming you? Or maybe he considers the
"failure" is very reasonable, because nothing will ever be perfect?
I am sure, your friend must have second thoughts.
Again,
remind yourself that making mistakes is absolutely nothing, and no human is
perfect.
3. See
your Problem as a Whole
If
you are worried about a deficiency in your job, try to remember the main
purpose of the job. Does your lack affect the effort to achieve the main goal
of the job? If not, then your worries need not be questioned.
4. Talk
to Personal Targets
Even
though it may feel difficult at first, try lowering your standards,
perfectionists! If you continue to insist, you will be very tired. Even though
you are an ordinary person who needs rest. If you get sick, all your activities
will stop, and that's worse, right?
